At Brad McPhee's first board meeting as co-chair of the Gay and Lesbian Business Association (GLBA) of BC, he was honest about the health of the association.

"The association had no money and was a complete disaster," says McPhee, a financial planner. "Our options were to wind down in an orderly manner or they could let me go crazy to shave off debt and begin the turn-around."

One of the GLBA's biggest lifesavers was enlisting the help of Support Services Unlimited.

"We saved 20 per cent on our operating costs by switching to Support Services," says McPhee. "We no longer have to pay a salary, benefits, rent, phone lines, etc. Support Services handles our entire administration."

Working with Support Services to increase revenue, reduce expenses and enhance membership satisfaction, the association was revitalized within months. Its web site, designed and developed by Support Services, allows membership purchases and event registration and payment. Their membership records and financial records are now in order. Membership is growing as is member satisfaction. Now, the GLBA operates a viable non-profit organization.

With Support Services in charge of the association's operations, the Board of Directors is free to fulfill its mandate.

"Now we spend more time developing value for our members and less time on operations," says McPhee. "That's the number one value the GLBA receives from Support Services."
